To continue its fight against childhood hunger, Blessings in a Backpack is teaming up with author Liz Murray to raise awareness and help feed 50,000 children through its school-focused programs. Liz Murray, the subject of the Lifetime movie “From Homeless to Harvard,” will be making a special appearance at the Bolingbrook Meijer store to sign copies of her memoir “Breaking Night” on Friday, September 24, 2010, from 1 to 3 p.m., located at 755 E. Boughton Rd. Liz Murray will be accompanied by Stan Curtis, founder of Blessings in a Backpack.
Liz Murray has been awarded The White House Project Role Model Award, a Christopher Award and a Chutzpah Award, which was awarded to her by O Magazine. The founder and director of Manifest Living, a company that empowers adults to create the results they want in their lives, Liz travels the world delivering motivational speeches and conducting workshops. Liz graduated from Harvard University in 2009, and is now applying to graduate schools.
“An engaging, powerfully motivational story,” as claimed by Publishers Weekly, “Breaking Night” accounts Liz Murray’s personal journey from her tragic childhood and teenage homelessness to her triumphant graduation from Harvard. This captivating memoir proves that even in the depths of such adversity, anyone can have the strength to change his or her life for the better.
Liz Murray’s book signing is part of a multi-city bus tour, sponsored by Meijer and Navistar. A portion of the proceeds from sales of “Breaking Night” at Meijer’s stores along this tour will go to Blessings in a Backpack. WVAZ-FM will also be on-site for a live radio broadcast.
