The baseball season may be over, but the chance to meet one of the Chicago Cubs is here! Sean Marshall, left-handed pitcher for the Cubs, will be stepping out of the bullpen and into the kitchen to prepare a healthy culinary creation -- candied pecan apple salad -- for his fans at Meijer. On Thursday, October 7, 2010, Marshall is sure to bring as much heat into the kitchen as he does on the mound while he creates this signature dish for the crowd at Meijer’s Bolingbrook store, located at I-355 and Boughton Road. Accompanying Marshall will be personal chef and culinary advisor, Sue Dow, a.k.a Sue Chef, who brings her PBS show to Chicago later this year. Sean Marshall will cook up a storm from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and then sign autographs until 6 p.m. The first 150 people to arrive starting at 3 p.m. at the Bolingbrook store will receive a wristband that ensures an autograph from Sean Marshall.
Sean Marshall was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2003 after pitching for three seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University. He made his major league debut against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006. A year later, Marshall was promoted to starting rotation by manager Lou Piniella. He claimed his first win of 2007 in matching a career high eight strikeouts to lead the Cubs to a 10-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
Sue Dow has always had a passion for food and healthy eating. In 2000, she launched Sue Chef, a personal chef service, creating custom healthy meals in the homes of her clients. In 2002, she moved into grocery retail by opening the first ever recreational cooking school in the Midwest, located right in the grocery store. Dow also has an educational cooking show on PBS called “Get Fresh with Sue Chef” that focuses on fresh local produce and goods from Michigan as well as her own Get Fresh! Cookbook that features some of her favorite recipes from the show. For more information and recipes please visit http://www.suechef.com.
