The Battle of Plattsburgh Association will unveil a new work of art at a reception in the KeyBank Gallery of the War of 1812 Museum on Wednesday January 9, 2008 at 7:00pm. Vermont artist John Purdy has captured, in a brilliant watercolor rendering, the first engagement between the advancing British column, stretching to the horizon from Beekmantown, and the small American force that attempted to slow their advance on Plattsburgh. Mr. Purdy’s Culver Hill-September 6, 1814 is the first in a series of three works pertaining to the Battles at Plattsburgh. The Battle of Plattsburgh Association is proud to offer a limited number of full-size, autographed collectors’ prints of Mr. Purdy’s work. Only two hundred full-size prints will be produced. The signed and numbered prints, each accompanied by an official certificate of authenticity, will be available for sale through the Association’s History Shoppe. At the event, Mr. Purdy will speak briefly of the Culver Hill engagement on September 6th of 1814 and will be signing prints for those who purchase a full-size print during the event. Prints will be available thereafter at the Association’s History Shoppe.
