During this retreat, we will deepen understanding of how to make room inside us for the strong emotions that are often provoked when we act to protect what we treasure in the world. The afternoon includes sitting meditations, guided exercises and relaxation, reflection, a talk and small group discussion. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Beginning and seasoned
meditators welcome.
Registration is limited to 25 participants. As with other events at the Center, this retreat is offered free of charge, out of the spirit of
generosity. Participants are asked to give donations for the retreat as
they are able. Registration at northfieldbuddhists.org
The retreat is preceded by a talk by Kaia at the Northfield Unitarian Universalists service, 10 a.m., 113 Linden South (next to St. Dominics):
With inspiration from Buddhist teacher and Vietnamese peacemaker, Thich Nhat Hanh, Kaia will explore in this talk how mindfulness opens the way for useful insights from the very emotions that oppress us when the "news" is bad.
Kaia Svien, MS, is a mindfulness meditation instructor and a social activist. (An educator for 30 years, she has worked in diverse settings, including the University of Minnesota, four hospitals - Northfield amongst them- and two women's prisons.)
