Media Democracy Fair:
Come to the FREE Media Democracy Fair and meet representatives from your favorite local independent media outlets. 4:30pm – 7pm Friday October 26th at the Concourse in SFU Vancouver (Harbour Centre) 515 West Hastings Street.
The Media Democracy Fair is FREE. Admission is open for everyone. Bring your friends and family to the Media Democracy Fair and stay for the discussions.

MDD 2007 will open up a talk by Saskia Sassen, renowned author of The Global City: New Frontiers/Strategic Sites at 7:00 pm. At least 285 people are expected to attend this talk. Limited free tickets are available for the public on a first come first serve basis. (Room 1400 at SFU Habour Centre, 515 West Hastings Street)

This event is free and open to the public. Admission tickets will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis at the Lecture site at 6:30 p.m.
Saskia Sassen is the Lynd professor of Sociology at Columbia University and a member of The Committee on Global Thought, after a decade at the University of Chicago and London School of Economics. She is the author of the influential study The Global City (1991, rpt.2001)Her recent books are Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages ( Princeton University Press 2006) and A Sociology of Globalization. (Norton 2007). She has now completed for UNESCO a five-year project on sustainable human settlement for which she set up a network of researchers and activists in over 30 countries; it is published as one of the volumes of the Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS) (Oxford, UK: EOLSS Publishers) [http://www.eolss.net ]. Her books are translated into sixteen languages. Her comments have appeared in The Guardian, The New York Times, Le Monde Diplomatique, the International Herald Tribune, Newsweek International, the Financial Times, among others.
