During her seven seasons on Saturday Night Live, Maya Rudolph was one of the company’s most versatile performers. The pitch-perfect characters she played on the sketch comedy series ran the gamut from Oprah Winfrey to Donatella Versace. As the daughter of soul singer Minnie Riperton and record producer Richard Rudolph, she was exposed to the creative arts at a young age. Before her comedic turn, she dabbled in singing and played keyboard for the pop-rock band The Rentals. Rudolph’s musical talents were frequently employed on Saturday Night Live in her impressions of performers including Whitney Houston, Beyonce, and Tina Turner. Her leap from the small screen to theatres was with 2005’s Idiocracy, a forward-thinking satirical tale that has acheived cult status since its release. In 2009, she starred as Verona in Away We Go, a sweet story of impending parenthood written by Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida. Her other movies have included A Prarie Home Companion, Shrek the Third, and most recently, Grown-Ups, co-starring Adam Sandler.
