SFMOMA's fourth floor can barely contain this retrospective of Barney's entire Drawing Restraint series — the museum knocked out the gallery's walls to create a seamless space for Barney's site-specific installation pieces, which explore resistance and restraint in a performance-art setting. The apex of the exhibit is Drawing Restraint 9, a film featuring Barney and his partner, Björk. Barney, the man behind the vivid, disturbing Cremaster series, has a tendency to challenge sexual norms and the limits of social acceptability — a tendency which is rendered in full-color intensity on the big screen.
