The Buchanan High School Leadership program invites you to participate in the upcoming Matt Mueller Memorial Blood and Bone Marrow Drive. The annual Matt Mueller Memorial Blood and Bone Marrow Drive is nationally recognized as one the largest blood drives in the Central Valley by the American Association of Blood Centers. This year’s event is taking place on January 27-29, 2009. The number of lives that have been saved by the success of the blood drive has been directly linked to the participation of our entire student body, staff and community. We have set a goal of 750 donors this year.
Matt Mueller was Buchanan’s first Activities Director and originator of the blood drive. He unfortunately passed away in September 2000. In honor of Matt Mueller, and due to the demand for blood in our community, Buchanan High School continues the tradition of blood donation and its education. Due to the recent passing of a Buchanan student from Leukemia, our community also witnessed the urgent need for bone marrow donors. We hope to add at least 50 people to the National Bone Marrow Registry to continue to save lives.
The educational-centered theme and message for the Matt Mueller Memorial Blood Drive is a take on the nationally acclaimed book series “ __________for Dummies”. This year, our focus is “Saving Lives for Dummies” . Our focus is to encourage students, staff, and community members to learn the benefits of saving lives and how easy the process can be when informed and educated.
The Matt Mueller Memorial Blood and Bone Marrow Drive will take place on January 27-29, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan High School Multi-Purpose Room. Every donor will receive a special t-shirt, discount coupons, and a free BBQ dinner. A supervised children’s area will be provided also free of charge. We are inviting the public to participate in any way possible. Please contact us at 327-3264 if you have any questions. Thank you very much and we look forward to hearing from you!
