Mati Maldre - Photographs: 1968-2008 April 3, 2008

April 4-May 4; Artist Reception: 4/4, 7-9pm

The exhibit captures Maldre's diverse photographic work. Maldre's earliest view camera work from the 1968 Chicago Lakefront through his latest view camera project, The Landscapes of Jens Jensen in Beverly, completed during 2006-2008 will be included. Among other works on exhibit will be architectural view camera projects from Galena, Pullman, City Churches, Chicago Lake front Bath Houses, Beverly Hills/Morgan Park, Walter Burley Griffin in America, Chicago Bungalows, Prairie School in Beverly, Ema ja Isa (Estonian for Mom and Dad,) The Sweet Shop, and McCormick Place Hustlers. Maldre will also exhibit traditional photographs that emphasize form and/or abstract design as seen in plants, the nude, macro photography, and city textures.

Mati Maldre is a Professor Emeritus of Art at Chicago State University, where he taught photography for 35 years. He also taught photography at the BAC for 33 years. His photographs have been widely published, placed in collections and exhibited at significant organizations such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Norton Simon Museum (Pasadena, CA), the Illinois State Museum and Melbourne University (Australia). He has photographed for he Interior's Historic American Building Survey, the Illinois Historic Building Survey, and the Chicago Landmarks Commission. Maldre is the co-author and photographer for Walter Burley Griffin in America and The Griffins in Australia. Maldre and received numerous commissions, awards and honors including grants from the National Endowments for the Arts, the Graham foundation and the Illinois Humanities Council, as well as an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship.
