Matana Roberts-a new chapter of Coin Coin-World Premier May 19, 2007

Matana Roberts explores her Choctaw, Cherokee and Chickasaw heritage in a mixed media performance piece entitled "Trail of Tear."

This is a new chapter in her ongoing musical blood narrative - Coin Coin.

The concert will feature Roberts on reeds, Chad Taylor on drums and percussion and visual artist Daniel Givens on projector.

Roberts is a dynamic saxophonist, composer and improviser, who tries to expose in her music the mystical roots and spiritual traditions of African American creative expression. She is an associate member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians and is on the faculty of the School For Improvised Music.
