Surround yourself with a flourish of brass and a celebration of sound! Masterworks Chorale, in collaboration with Peninsula Cantare, presents two main works featuring brass, choir and organ—John Rutter’s Gloria, with its alternately serene melodic lines and exuberant rhythms and the stunning antiphonal and equally wonderful Jubilate Deo by Giovanni Gabrieli.
Celebration and innovation also mark the work of two contemporary American composers, Gwyneth Walker and Eric Whitacre. Walker’s settings of American spirituals such as “I’ve Got Peace Like a River” use intriguing harmonies to express a profound, ageless reverence, while Whitacre’s quietly dramatic and tumultuous “Cloudburst” translates the natural phenomenon of a rainstorm into sound through percussion and the human voice. A work of incredible imagination and transcendent beauty, it is a piece not only to be heard but also experienced.
Come immerse your senses in the glorious, awe-inspiring voices and celebratory sounds that echo across the centuries in this very special concert—Fanfare!
