Byers-Evans House Gallery presents
“Masterworks of Photography from the Collection of Hal Gould”
Masterworks of Photography from the Collection of Hal Gould, will be on view in the Byers-Evans House Gallery, located at 1310 Bannock Street in Denver, May 6 through July 30. A free opening evening reception from 5 – 9 p.m. on Friday, May 6, will be held in the gallery in conjunction with the Golden Triangle Museum District’s First Friday Art Walk.
Out of his love for photography, Denver photographer Hal Gould opened the Camera Obscura Gallery. For over thirty years, it was a showplace for the works of many of the world’s greatest artists of the medium, at a time when photographs were not considered a viable form of fine art. Hal Gould exhibited and collected the work of the world’s most recognized photographers including Sebastiao Salgado, Philippe Halsman, and Edward Weston. This exhibition at the Byers-Evans House Gallery is a gathering of the works Gould considers his favorite images. As he says, "Photography is the most dynamic medium for artistic expression of the 21st Century," and this exhibition demonstrates that philosophy.
Gould lightheartedly states of the show: “After many years of collecting my love of photography, the images in this collection are the ones I did not have to sell to pay rent! While there is some truth in that, however, they do represent many of my favorite photographs by many of the greatest photographic artists of our time.”
The Byers-Evans House Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the gallery is free.
