Hear the choir that is about to sing at New York's Carnegie Hall! Viva la Musica choir, orchestra, and soloists perform Masses for Peace at the historic Carrington Hall in Redwood City. Vivaldi's Gloria is effervescent and impassioned. Written for the stunningly accomplished virtuosi girls of a Venetian orphanage, this sacred Mass thrills from the rousing opening trumpet calls to the triumphal closing fugue. Rene Carlos Ochoa's Misa Del Pueblo is full of joy: Sacred music that will have you toe-tapping, clapping, and with the composer's blessing, even dancing in the aisles! A mariachi band, including the composer himself on guitar, accompanies the choir. The latest classical-ethnic-ecclesiastic smash hit, A Mass for Peace, for choir and orchestra, by Welshman Karl Jenkins, gets its name from the anonymous, mysterious 15th century get-under-your-skin-song, The Armed Man. Guaranteed to raise the roof beams!
The Hillsdale High School Chamber Singers collaborates in these performances.
Featured soloists are Deirdre Lobo D'Cunha, soprano, and Elspeth Frank, contralto.
