Maryland Opera Studio: Armide April 19, 2007

Set in Damascus during the Crusades, Gluck’s rendition of Jean-Baptist Lully’s original five-act opera re-tells the medieval love story of a sorceress and a soldier. When the Christian knight Renaud rescues imprisoned comrades from the spell of Armide, she sets her sights on bewitching and killing him, only to become enchanted herself. Can her powers compel Renaud to truly love her in return?
