In honor of the special loan of Mary Cassatt's Portrait of Madame X Dressed for the Matinee from the collection Charlotte and Philip Hanes of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, The Mint Museum has organized a spotlight exhibition. Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) was a pioneer in her field: she was the only American invited to exhibit with the French Impressionists and the first artist from this country to adopt their groundbreaking style and subject matter. This dashing three-quarter length portrait, executed soon after Cassatt met Edgar Degas, has been included in numerous important exhibitions around the world.
