The City of Sunnyvale will host a meeting and a forum for the members of Sunnyvale West Neighborhood Association, their friends and guests on the subject of The Mary Avenue Extension Project on the evening of Sept 29, 2008 at the Las Palmas Park building, on Russet, off Hollenbeck.
The proposed Mary Avenue Extension will be a roughly one-half mile bridge over Highways 101 and 237 terminating in Moffett Park business park. It is expected to have significant affects on the pattern of north-south traffic, although allegedly that will nearly all be north of central expressway.
The meeting will start with 15 minutes of refreshments and networking. Starting at 7:15 pm (and no later) there will be a 30 minute presentation by the City of Sunnyvale Transportation and Traffic Manager, Mr. Jack Witthaus on the Mary Avenue Extension Project overall and its current status in moving towards City Council approval. Mr. Witthaus is preparing a special presentation for S.W.N.A.-- a discussion more focused on Mary Ave. south of Central and what kinds of traffic measures residents may be interested in the City considering either now or in the future if traffic volumes increase (regardless of the Mary Extension). Mr. Witthaus indicates that this discussion will include the effects on collector streets.
A question and answer period of 40 minutes or more will follow. Although there will be other forums on the Mary Avenue Extension project, this is one of the few on a Monday evening, one of the few in the early evening, and the only one personalized to the interests of the residents of Sunnyvale West. This is a good time to catch up with the status of the project and its role in the future of Sunnyvale West traffic planning. The agenda of the City Council of the City of Sunnyvale indicates that the City Council will decide take action on the Mary Avenue Extension project October 28, 2008.
