It's in Japan's snow country during WWII, a beautiful & isolated setting, that we learn the story of Morie Sawataishi, a fierce individualist who refused to give up an Akita dog to the war effort. By the time of the Japanese surrender in 1945, there were only 16 Akitas left in the entire country, but through his perseverance & passion, he almost singlehandedly saved a breed that today has grown wildly popular. Now, at the age of 94, he continues to raise & train the dogs that have come to symbolize his entire life.
