Mark Hummel is a road warrior - a true Blues Survivor. Along the way, he has crafted his own trademark harmonica sound - a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack, combined with a strong sense of swing. Hummel has achieved wide recognition through nearly constant touring and appearances at the major blues festivals which have firmly established his solid reputation around the US, Canada and Europe.
This show is a true Blues blowout featuring singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer Nick Gravenites, or "the original San Francisco connection for the Chicago crowd" according to author and pop music critic Joel Selvin. Author of the classic song titled "Born In Chicago" and the groundbreaking "East West" for The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Gravenites scribed hits for Janis Joplin as well as blues giants Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, and James Cotton.
The show also features Chicago Blues Guitarist Steve Freund. Long one of Chicago's most respected blues guitarists, Freund has played with the likes of Sunnyland Slim, Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Walker, Big Walter Horton and Floyd Jones. And though he now calls California home, Freund still functions as a Chicago blues historian/ambassador, frequently relating Windy City blues stories, anecdotes and asides during his live performances.
Opening will be a short electric set by local sensation and award-winning singer Tia Carroll. Tia Carroll is a blues, soul and R&B powerhouse who's toured internationally and now brings her talented back-up band Hard Work with her to perform at George's. Carroll's acclaimed live shows include originals from her self-titled CD and a mix of classic covers for an high-energy evening of entertainment.
