MARK COLEMAN urges us to be AWAKE IN THE WILD. You’ve seen “An Inconvenient Truth” and read the daily headlines about global warming. If you’re wondering what to do, environmental activist and writer Mark Coleman says, “Go outdoors,” believing that it is essential that we develop a spiritual connection with the natural world. Coleman tempts us to turn off our computers, and leave the confines of our homes, offices, and cars, to step outside into the beauty that abounds in the wilderness, to breathe fresh air, to touch the earth, and to bear witness to the harm we are causing the environment. Drawing on Buddhist practices, Mark explores how the practice of Mindfulness awakens us to the profundity of the natural world, and how intimate contemplative contact with nature awakens our awareness to ourselves, to life all around us, and to the lessons and teachings we need to hear in order to grow fully. Mark Coleman is currently a teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and leads retreats that combine Buddhist practice in nature and environmental activism. 4:00 PM at Cody’s Stockton Street, San Francisco
