Only recently have we begun to understand the compelling importance of women to the development of jazz. This program focuses on such important female performers and bands as the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, Ina Ray Hutton and her Melodears, the big bands of Rita Rio and Ada Leonard, soloists Melba Liston, Corky Hale, Hazel Scott and many others.
