"A Gift from Brittany" is a memoir about artistic passion, an ancient culture and two transformative relationships. Marjorie “Midge” Price, an aspiring artist in her late twenties, travels alone to France in 1960. Once in Paris, she falls in love and marries an exciting French painter named Yves. When Yves buys half of a remote and ancient hamlet in the Breton countryside, Midge finds herself in an unfamiliar world where modern comforts are nonexistent and where the lives and customs of the villagers have changed little since the Middle Ages. There, she forges a friendship with an elderly peasant woman that would change her life forever.
