Ever touched a shark? Seen a flounder - not on your dinner plate? Held a kelp crab? Come to the Marine Science Institute and get face-to-face with your neighbors in the seas.
At the Marine Science Institute we believe interactions like these are crucial to build awareness for the complex wildlife inhabiting SF Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It has also led to a new public program we are excited to invite your participation in: MSI's Aquarium Spotlight Days.
Our very first Aquarium Spotlight Day will take place Saturday, September 26th, from 2 ~ 5pm. Check out http://www.sfbaymsi.org for more details.
Each year MSI reaches over 50,000 people with our marine science education programs. Yet this will mark the first opportunity in our 40 year history for the public to discover our organization and facilities on a regular basis. It is an important step towards our goal of one day being open to the public full-time. We've often been described as not only Redwood City's best keep secret, but one of the Bay Area's as well. Come on down and learn what makes the Bay, our coastal oceans, and MSI so special.
MSI provides a fun, safe, interactive, educational and memorable experience with our wide variety of sealife. Stationed throughout our dozen aquarium tanks, marine biologists and volunteers will be on hand to help you learn about, see, and touch sea stars, urchins, crabs, fish, and yes, even sharks!
There are many serious threats to our local marine environment and the oceans at large. MSI provides a way for you to link the global to the local, leaving you with tools to help address the threats in your everyday actions.
Free - no charge.
