Marin Poetry Center Presents ' Reading By Martha Rhodes and Susan Browne ' September 20, 2012

The Marin Poetry Center will present a reading by poets Martha Rhodes and Susan Browne as part of the Marin Poetry Center’s Third Thursday Series. This event is supported by Poets & Writers, Inc. through a grant it has received from The James Irvine Foundation.

Martha Rhodes is the author of four poetry collections, AT THE GATE, PERFECT DISAPPEARANCE (winner of The Green Rose Prize), MOTHER QUIET and most recently THE BEDS from Autumn House. Her work has appeared in many journals including Agni, Fence, New England Review, Pleiades, The New American Poets: a Bread Loaf Anthology, The Extraordinary Tide: New Poetry by American Woman, A Poem in Your Pocket from the Academy of American Poets, and others. She teaches at Sarah Lawrence College, The MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College, and is the director of The Frost Place Festival and Conference on Poetry. She is the director of Four Way Books, publishers of poetry and short fiction. She lives in New York City.

Susan Browne has lived most of her life in the Bay Area. Her poetry has appeared in Ploughshares, Subtropics, River City, The Mississippi Review, American Life in Poetry, Writer’s Almanac, 180 More, Extraordinary Poems for Everyday, edited by Billy Collins, and others. Her awards include prizes from the Chester H. Jones Foundation, the National Writers Union, the Los Angeles Poetry Festival, and the River Styx International Poetry Contest. Her first book, Buddha’s Dogs, won The Four Way Books Intro Prize and was selected by Edward Hirsch. Her second book, Zephyr, won the Editor’s Prize at Steel Toe Books.
