MARGARET CHO explains why I HAVE CHOSEN TO STAY AND FIGHT. One of America's most original and outrageous comedians, Cho is well-known for a liberal activism that garners her both an intensely devoted following and intense hate mail. Cho's new book lays out her principled positions on the issues she has long championed, and why she believes Republicans are wrong on everything from same-sex marriage to preaching abstinence to the morning-after pill. Her work bears the mark of deep personal involvement with issues such as women's rights, equality for gays and lesbians, civil liberties, and the growing gap between rich and poor. Perhaps most surprisingly to friend and foe alike, she writes about her devout Christianity, the product of being raised in a "born again/Buddhist" household. Vehement, principled and resoundingly funny, Cho recounts her adventures and misadventures in activism, urging us in the end to get visible, get loud and "get your war on." Margaret Cho is one of America's most successful comedians, and the author of I'm The One That I Want, her first one-woman show which became a hit book and film at the same time. Her third tour, Revolution, earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Comedy Album of the Year; this year's tour, Assassin, played to sold-out crowds around the US and in Australia. She has received awards from many groups, including the ACLU, NOW, the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, and the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund. And watch out: Cho's first narrative feature film, Bam Bam and Celeste, will be in theaters in March 2006!
