This film evening celebrates World Water Day, a United Nations
designated day (actually March 22) reminding us all of the importance
of WATER.
Films to be Screened:
1. Ganga: From the Ground Up (45min; 2006)
Director Yves Sadurni Dupont
For centuries, the Ganges River has provided nourishment for one of
the largest populations in the world. But in the age of
globalization, the river is threatened. Ganga highlights the major
threats to the Ganges River - the Tehri Dam project and the
displacement of over 100 000 Indian villagers; the attempt to
privatize the water of the Ganges and the persistent problem of
pollution in the river. The film serves as a microcosmic picture of
the impending global scarcity of water, and reveals the clashes
between interests.
2. Water Filter for the Third World (7min; 2005)
David Manz, the Biosand Water Filter inventor residing here in
Calgary explains the filter and shares his thoughts on its potential.
CAWST personnel who train people to install this innovation describe
the filter and its impact in the developing world.
3. Water Warriors (6min; 2006)
Director Liz Miller
Water Warriors is the story of one community's determination to fight
the seemingly inevitable path of water privatization.
