Marco Benevento will tour the U.S. and Canada this Fall in support of his critically acclaimed new release, Between The Needles & Nightfall. In the midst of the 21-night run, Benevento and his band, featuring bassist Dave Dreiwitz (Ween) and drummer Nick Kinsay (Elvis Perkins In Dearland), appear for a headline performance at Capital Ale House in Richmond, VA on Saturday, November 6. The show is the official after-party for Screens 'n' Suds, an annual charity event bringing together the best of local concert poster/screen print artists and regional breweries to raise money for The MS Society and Hospice of Virginia.
The Brooklyn-based pianist is coming off a busy summer that found him on the road with his own band in addition to touring as a full-time member of Garage A Trois and Surprise Me Mr. Davis. Highlights included a solo piano set at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, a co-bill with The Books at Rhode Island School of Design and a hometown album release show at Bowery Ballroom in New York City. He is also featured on the new Manimal Vinyl release We Were So Turned On: A Tribute To David Bowie with his interpretation of "Art Decade."
Marco Benevento proves himself one of the most prolific new voices of his era on his latest album, Between The Needles & Nightfall. Blurring genres from song to song, and more often from measure to measure, he offers his own take on simple pop pleasures, dance party rave-ups and art jazz experimentation. The results range from the day-glo electro-rock of "It Came From You" to the simply-stated lullaby "Ila Frost" to the shimmering Arcade Fire-meets-Brad Mehldau anthem "Two Of You." Speaking in modern sonic tongues, cut-and-pasted, tweaked-out and glitchy, Benevento creates music full of wide-eyed wonder that rejoices in the limitless horizons of sound and melody.
