March Break Artsmartz in the Square Presented by Neilson Park Creative Centre at Sherway Gardens March 16 - 20 March 16, 2009

March break is a great time for kids to have fun learning new skills that are both artistic and practical. Neilson Park Creative Centre (NPCC) and Sherway Gardens (Hwy 427 & the QEW) present Artsmartz in the Square, creative art workshops, from Monday March 16 until Friday March 20 from 10am-4pm in Sherway Square. A $5 admission charge includes an art kit with specific supplies needed for that day’s activity, a tote bag and entrance to the Square. All proceeds go to the NPCC. For more information call

Each day offers a different continuous creative workshop geared towards children age five and up and can accommodate up to 40 children at any given time on a first come first serve basis. It is estimated that each activity will take between 20-45 minutes to complete depending on the child’s age and skills. The daily art project is supervised by NPCC staff and volunteers, but please note, parents must stay in the square while children are participating.
Daily Activity Descriptions:

Monday: Cartoon Wheels
Use your imagination to create characters that are serious or silly, old or young, happy or sad, the possibilities are endless!

Tuesday: "Paint" with Paper - 3D Landscapes
A beautiful sunset, a sunny beach, a winter wonderland, or an enchanted forest. Using only paper, create a landscape "painting" that jumps off the page!

Wednesday: Animal Masks
Join the fun at the Artsmartz Zoo, and create an animal mask of your own! You could be a tiger, a mouse, a parrot, or a monkey! Or use your imagination and create your own animal!

Thursday: Paper Puppets
Create three different paper puppets with movable parts! Invent unique characters and put on a puppet show with your friends!

Friday: Whimsical Mobile
Create an original work of art using a variety of 3D shapes. Use colour, shape and size to create an eye catching mobile that you can hang up at home!

The art kits will include the specific supplies needed for that day’s activity and are available for $5 each (cash only) with 100% of all proceeds going to Neilson Park Creative Centre. A limited supply of purchase only kits will be available to take home, but will not include all the materials needed to complete the activity and will need additional general art supplies.
