Short Description:
This HIPAA Compliance webinar will assist attendees in developing and implementing tools to investigate and mitigate Protected Health Information (PHI) breach incidents.
Long Description:
Improper disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) has been on the rise since the inception of the Breach Notification Rule. Over 7 million records were improperly disclosed in 2011 and are predicted to be higher in the following years. Improper use or disclosure of health information is costly and can often be avoided with strong internal awareness and procedures. Proper management, audit and developing early investigation and mitigation practices can significantly reduce legal liability to your agency.
This course will provide an in depth understanding of OCR incident and mitigation requirements and what to expect from government regulatory agencies such as Office of Civil Rights (OCR). It will provide guidance on creating a strong incidence response plan. Areas of the response plan include development and implementation of response teams, training of staff, early detection, evaluation, response and managing the long term breach consequences. Following topics will be discussed during the webinar:
• Creating an incident response process
• Risk analysis requirements to determine if an incident is a violation or a breach
• Report and response to an incident
• Determining whether an incident should be reported
• What to expect when working with a federal regulatory agency
