Wrangling the Wild West: How to Make Sense of the 21st Century Music Industry

See David Katznelson, the founder of Birdman Records, after he speaks at SWSX!

The current music industry is a wild west...a chaotic, ever-changing
animal. In this course, we will look at the past models of the
industry, the tidal wave of change that has destroyed them, and how to
make sense of the modern age.

You will learn: * The function of record labels * How the digital
world translates into a successful music industry model * What will
happen to the way we market music to listeners who listen and buy it
in ways never before dreamed.

David Katznelson's extensive and varied background in the music industry reaches back over 20 years, including 10+ years at Warner Brothers records, where he served as a Vice President and signed bands like the Flaming Lips, Nick Cave, Mudhoney, and The Texas Tornados. He is now the owner of the Birdman Recording Group, a group of independent record labels and a music publishing company. Because of his insight into the future of music, David also serves on the board of leading-edge digital music companies and also acts as a consultant. David is a Taurus and likes to groove.

The class date is 5/8 from 6:45-9:30pm.

Please note: The event will be held at a TBA Union Square Hotel.
