Chicago singer Maggie Brown has started picking up the tempo of her career again - a welcome development for anyone who appreciates the perpetually endangered art of jazz singing. Not that the record industry - such as it is - doesn't promote jazz vocalists. Alas, they tend to appeal more to the eye than to the ear. Critic Howard Reich writes "Brown stands out for the interpretive depth of her work. But her primary calling - mom to three kids - has meant that audiences in Chicago and around the world haven't heard as much of her as they'd like. And need."
