Arts on Grand (AOG) is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibit “Madonna & Child”, a retrospective collection of visual arts by Dr. M. Karen Ruddy of Emmetsburg, IA. The exhibit will be on display from Tuesday December 12, 2006, through Saturday, January13, 2007. The public is invited to attend a gallery reception on Thursday, December 14, from 5:00 – 6:30 PM. Dr. Ruddy will conduct a brief gallery talk at 5:15 PM.

This exhibit features visual artworks in a variety of mediums, including mosaics, paintings and mixed media work by Dr. Karen Ruddy. Dr. Ruddy works in every type of media – from graphite drawings, oils, pastels, watercolor, pottery, stained glass, beadwork and sculpture, to her recent work with Venetian Smalti mosaics. Realistic and religious themes are found throughout her work.

Dr. Ruddy was born in Iowa and grew up in Emmetsburg. She earned an undergraduate degree in Art and Education from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, where she created large works of art, some of which will be featured in this retrospective exhibit.

Dr. Ruddy earned a Master’s and Ph.D. from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, and spent the next 31 years as the director of College and multi-type Library Systems in Amarillo, Texas and Ardmore, Oklahoma. In 2004 Dr. Ruddy retired and moved back home to Emmetsburg, allowing her to return to her first love – Art – in all its forms.

This exhibit is sponsored locally by Midwest Radiology and Imaging – Dr. Paul Skopec and Dr. Charles Crouch, and in part by operational support from the Iowa Arts Council, a department within the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

Arts on Grand is a multi-disciplinary, non profit arts agency dedicated to making the arts available to everybody. The facility features an exhibit gallery, gift gallery, and studio classrooms. It is open from 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday, and from 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays.
