The Tenth Anniversary of the Secret Rose Theatre
offers a rare opportunity to see the play that inspired Puccini’s opera
---
The inspiration for Puccini’s famous opera, and based on the story by John Luther Long, this one-act play tells the tale of a young Japanese woman waiting for her American lover to return.
The Secret Rose Theatre opened its doors in the NoHo Arts District with “Madame Butterfly: the original play”. The show opened with rave reviews including a Critic’s Pick from Back Stage West on March 5, 1999, coincidentally the 99th anniversary of the New York City “Madame Butterfly” debut. To celebrate the theatre’s Ten-Year Anniversary, many of the cast will reunite for a special production opening March 5, 2009 for a limited three week run. The one-act will be presented with a Japanese classical play, “Fool on a Roof” translated by Kaz Matamura with both plays directed by Mike Rademaekers co-owners of the Secret Rose Theatre.
