WHAT:
Santa Claus is coming to town! Giving the reindeer time off for good behavior, Santa will arrive on a shiny Macy’s tour bus as he stops to visit children of all ages in Austin. Welcoming one and all to join in the festivities, Santa will remind everyone about the magic of the Christmas season with a special reading and a few magical moments with the jolly old elf. Santa’s joy-spreading will continue with a special visit to Macy’s where Santa will meet with Make-A-Wish Wish Kids and their families for a special reading of “The Night Before Christmas” and collect letters from children.
Every letter brought to Santa means a donation of $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, up to $1 million, to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
WHO:
Santa Claus was first introduced to his home-away-from-home at Macy’s on 14th Street in 1862. As time passed, Macy’s expanded, moving Santa to the store’s new location on 34th Street in 1902. In 1924, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® stepped off for the first time to usher in the season and bring Santa to the store to unveil Macy’s famous Christmas windows. In 1947, Santa was immortalized in the classic film “Miracle on 34th Street,” and his home at Macy’s was proclaimed. Many decades later, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® has become the official start of the holiday season each year, bringing the one-and-only Santa Claus to town.
