A play of contradiction and ambition, Macbeth opens with three witches spinning predictions of grandeur, and quickly moves deeper into chaos, "fog and filthy air," dark mystery and murder. Driven to fulfill the witches' prophecy, Macbeth seizes power only to be destroyed by his blind ambition.
