Florida Democratic Senator Bill Nelson will deliver the luncheon address during the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida M-Powerment Luncheon, Monday, August 24, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Citrus Club, 225 South Orange Avenue, Orlando, Florida. Senator Nelson will provide his views on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also known as the Economic Stimulus Package, and its direct impact on entrepreneurship for communities of color. This piece of legislation was signed into law February 17, 2009, with the designation to help alleviate a burdened economy in the wake of the economic downturn.
Senator Nelson is well esteemed among colleagues and constituents for championing many important initiatives for Florida citizens. His tenure of public service began with an election to the Florida Legislature in 1972, and continues today, where he has served in the United States Senate since November 2000. Known for working valiantly to craft legislation to help prevent consumer and computer fraud, Nelson’s efforts have also aided in the development of responsible growth management laws. As a six term United States Congressman, Nelson, represented Orlando and the Space Coast. He also served the Florida Cabinet as state Treasurer, Insurance Commissioner and Fire Marshal, where he garnered the reputation of being a common-sense problem solver and strong consumer advocate.
