"The world premiere of the brand new musical Take Flight by award winning composers Maltby and Shire, with book by John Weidman opens at the Chocolate Factory from 13th July for a strictly limited season until September 22nd. This incredible show promises to be our most exciting production to date.
Director Sam Buntrock, musical supervisor Caroline Humphris and "designer David Farley reunite for the first time since working together on the award-winning Chocolate Factory production of Sunday in the Park with George, and prior to its Broadway transfer this winter. This exclusive world premiere tells the inspirational stories of the pioneers of flight; The Wright brothers, Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh.
"The prestigious American writers Richard Maltby and David Shire have written many shows together including Closer than Ever, Starting Here, Starting Now and Baby. Individually David Shire is an Oscar winning film score composer (All The Presidents Men, Norma Rae and most recently Zodiac). Richard Maltby wrote the lyrics for Miss Saigon and he devised and directed Ain’t Misbehavin (Tony – Best Director) and Fosse. John Weidman is a long time Sondheim collaborator, he wrote the book for Assassins, Pacific Overtures and Bounce. "
