The Premier announced to Bermuda on March 7th the project entitled ?A Partnership for a Sustainable Bermuda?. The project team is charged with the task of creating a strategy and action plan to address the unsustainable issues in Bermuda such as housing, land use, open space, building standards, transportation, lifelong learning, economic democracy, waste, climate change, health, etc.
The team is comprised of Mr. Ross Andrews ? Project Coordinator, Mrs. Erica Smith ? Ministry of the Environment, Mrs. Melinda Williams ? Department of Statistics, Mr. Charles Clarke ? Ministry of Tourism and Transport and Ms. Leila Wadson (junior policy analyst). The private sector in the form of the Association of Bermuda International Companies (ABIC) has agreed to donate 230 hours of human resources to the project as needed and each Ministry throughout the Government has identified point persons to ensure that the work of the project team does not occur in isolation.
Over the next 6 months the project team will be trying to reach as many Bermudians as possible to find out what the key issues are, now and in the future. For example, what type of Bermuda do we want to live in, and more importantly, what type of Bermuda do we want our children and their children to inherit? To this end, we intend to stimulate a national debate on sustainable development, following which the project team will develop specific actions to put Bermuda on a more sustainable path.
