Las Cruces, NM - Join the Las Cruces Railroad Museum at noon on October 9, as they host the founder of the Shalam Colony Museum, LesLee Alexander for a slide presentation on this unusual slice of Southern New Mexico history. The original Shalam Colony was the namesake of the present-day county road still bearing that name. Ms. Alexander will separate fact from long-held fiction as to why these Easterners chose the Mesilla Valley for their utopian orphanage attempt and the impact the railroad had on their plans. Included will be the first public showing of a 2-minute preview for an upcoming documentary on this subject. Refreshments will be served.
The Railroad Museum is located at the intersection of Las Cruces Avenue and Mesilla Street. There is no charge to attend lecture. The Railroad Museum is handicapped accessible. For more information, contact us at 505-647-4480 or visit our website at http://museums.las-cruces.org.
