Photography, paintings and sculpture by artists in Arizona in the 1930s and 1940s captured the history and culture of this devastating chapter in American life, a chapter resembling in many ways the experiences of today's "Great Recession."
Betsy Fahlman, professor of art history at Arizona State University, tells this story in her latest book, New Deal Art in Arizona. Many of the photos in the book are from the collections of the Arizona State Library and Archives.
