~ Film Screening presented by Black Cat ~
An advance ticket gaurantees you admission for the film screening. This year we're showing Sound of the Soul - a vivid and compelling portrait of an Arab country where Muslims, Christians and Jews have lived together in relative peace for centuries. Beautifully photographed during Morocco's Fez Festival of World Sacred Music, the film presents unforgettable performances from groups from Morocco, Ireland, Russia, Afghanistan, Mauritania, the USA, Portugal and France, which carry viewers into what the film's Sufi guide calls 'the hearing of the heart' - the essential oneness at the core of all religions and faiths. In a world polarized by religious conflicts and fundamentalist forces, this film offers a timely and inspiring cinematic journey, reverberating with unity, understanding, and hope.
~ Solstice Dance Ritual with Luna and Solus of Ekstasis Dance -
From 11:00pm until midnight join Luna Ravenchilde and Solus of Ekstasis Dance on a Solstice dance ritual, a celebratory way to dance through the darkness and call back the light - letting go of what does not serve us from the previous year, and bringing in the new. It's a healing journey through the body, emotions and spirit using movement, breath, intention, and primal rhythm patterns.
~ Live Music ~
Live music to move body and soul with Pepe Danza, Navaro Franco and others: deep and dynamic dance music, tribal grooves on drums, flutes, world percussion. Pepe and Navaro are 'Cultural Translators', taking the essence of ancient traditions of earth based music, rhythm, and dance... and transforming them for today's Tribe.
Navaro has been drumming and dancing for over 20 years. She has studied music and dance in the African traditions, modern, improv, contact, trance dance, and Gabrielle Roth's 5 Rhythms. An ecstatic dance facilitator, Navaro provides healing spaces for community gathering and soulful freedom of expression. She currently performs with and co-directs the eclectic Drum Players with Pepe Danza, and is a founding member of the Diva Drum Collective, and the ~Wave~Ecstatic Music & Dance Collective.
Joseph 'Pepe' Danza is an electrifying percussionist and multi-instrumentalist. Originally a native of Uruguay, he has spent his life playing music, and has travelled the world to immerse himself in many traditions. Pepe was Artistic Director of Vancouver's West Coast Sacred Music Festival for four years. Focused on Afro & Latin drumming traditions, as well as exploring music and healing, Pepe is internationally known for his work as a composer, recording artist, band leader, performer and teacher.
