More than 45 years of art expertise are evident in Luis Neri Zagal’s 2006 exhibition of New Paintings and Works on Paper, which will be on display throughout the month of September at the Weyrich Gallery, 2935 Louisiana Boulevard, NE. The Gallery has scheduled the opening reception for Friday, September 1 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
This year’s show demonstrates Neri Zagal’s mastery of color and form in works that are contemporary, yet evocative of ancient images and emotions.
Luis Neri Zagal was a protégé of the world-renowned Mexican muralist, Diego Rivera, who recognized his talent and supported him in his work when the latter was in his late teens. The young artist earned the honor of exhibiting his paintings in the Museo de Arte Moderno during Mexico City’s first International Biennial in 1958.
Since that auspicious debut, Neri Zagal has had numerous one-man exhibitions in such major cities as New York, Boston and Los Angeles – in addition to Mexico City. His paintings are in the permanent collections of the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum in Santa Fe and the Museum of Modern Art in Toluca, Mexico, as well as in many private collections in Mexico and the U.S.
He has also won widespread recognition as a practicing professional art conservator, and is a Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation.
