Lucero's material covers a desolate map of the human spirit, marked along the way by lost cowboys, doomed relationships, bad habits and broken promises. Ironically, the translation of the group's Spanish name means 'bright star.' Rocky Votolato's delivery is focused, mature and able to skip between lyrical themes and moods with ease. Rustic punker William Elliott Whitmore continues to pair aching narratives with sparse instrumental arrangements, work that by turns confounds and consumes.
