The Facts
Blacks are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. While making up only 13 percent of the U.S. population, they account for more than 49 percent of AIDS cases. AIDS is now the leading cause of death for Black women ages 25 to 34, and the second leading cause of death for Black men ages 35 to 44.
Take Action
There are many ways you can take action in the response to HIV/AIDS:
*get tested for HIV
*practice safe methods to prevent HIV
*decide not to engage in high risk behaviors
*talk about HIV prevention with family, friends, and colleagues
*provide support to people living with HIV/AIDS
*get involved with or host an event for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in your community
Join Love Jones Fridays This Friday February 6, 2009 in taking a stand against this pandemic. Saturday is National Black HIV/AIDS day.
Friday will be a great way to
Increase the number of people who get tested for HIV;
Promote local, community-level discussions about HIV-related stigma and risk behaviors and increase the number of people engaged in these discussions; and Increase the number of new partnerships and collaborations addressing HIV/AIDS while maintaining existing relationships.
$5.00 Admission Fee. Proceeds from the door will be donated to Research for finding a cure for Aids! Doors open at 6:00. Come out and enjoy gret food and drinks during Happy Hour 6-7:30. Show starts at 7:30. Come out and feed your mind, body and soul.
