The drama, promiscuity and games didn't end when you pass a certain street. We live in a culture that both hates or is obsessed with sex. And those are the heterosexuals. The fact that the new gay neigbourhoods are still relatively small and geographically concentrated in a handful of urban areas is creating a distinctive gay culture. Do we really think, we are liberated because we live in a new queer village?

There are still bars, bathouses, bedrooms, parks, alleyways, motels, where men and women meet each other in highly sexualized contexts and where sex provides the commonality. Gay, bisexual, lesbian, trans-sexual, transgendered, queer men and women want to be fully part of the new villages. But, do they want it, at the expense of their own sexual freedom? The AIDS epidemic insists that we deal directly and honestly with how we have sex, what it means to us, and how we can continue to have sex in a responsible manner.
