Lesley Glaister’s new novel Chosen, examines how extreme beliefs impact upon individuals and families, as a woman explores the death of her mother and the disappearance of her brother to a religious cult. The debut novel from Welsh writer Mari Strachan is The Earth Hums in B Flat, a book that has been described as ‘compelling’ and ‘devastating’ by enthusiastic critics. Strachan’s book tells the story of a child named Gwenni Morgan, whose life changes forever when a local man goes missing and she has to piece together evidence about the people around her. In doing so, Gwenni gradually uncovers some uncomfortable secrets about her family and her community.
