Conceptual artist Brian Feldman’s lifelong motto, “I only gamble with creativity,” gets put to the test during PooL Art Fair Miami 2009.
During the PooL Art Fair Vernissage, Brian Feldman will be seated at a table in the Carlton Hotel South Beach lobby inviting all attendees to join a Lotto PooL by each giving him $1.00 cash, as well as their contact information.
Immediately following the Vernissage, Brian Feldman will walk to the nearest convenience store and purchase the number of $1.00 QP (Quick Pick) FLORIDA LOTTO™ tickets corresponding to the number of people who have joined the Lotto PooL.
On Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 11:15pm EST, Brian Feldman will sit in the lobby and watch the live FLORIDA LOTTO™ drawing on TV. He will then check each ticket to see if any of them match the numbers drawn. In the event that one of the purchased lotto tickets wins the jackpot (6-of-6), the money will be split equally amongst all in the Lotto PooL.
In the event that any of the purchased lotto tickets match 3-of-6 to 5-of-6 numbers, Brian Feldman will collect the prize amount (assuming that amount is less than $600*) and then use his artistic discretion in order to purchase a work of art from either the PooL Art Fair, a parallel fair or street artist, equal to the Lotto PooL winnings.
Brian Feldman will then document the work of art through photography and video, prior to intentionally cutting (if a canvas, work on paper) or breaking (if a sculpture, mixed media piece) the purchased artwork - into the number of pieces corresponding to the number of people in the Lotto PooL; as even a split as possible.
The members of the Lotto PooL will then be able to collect their winning piece of... some would say “destroyed,” Brian prefers “repurposed,” art, prior to the conclusion of the PooL Art Fair. After that time, all unclaimed pieces revert back to Brian Feldman.
*FLORIDA LOTTO™ prizes of less than $600 can be claimed at any Florida Lottery retailer. Prizes of up to $250,000 can be claimed at any Florida Lottery district office. Prizes greater than $250,000 must be claimed at Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.
This PooL Art Fair Miami 2009 project is not sanctioned, endorsed or sponsored by Florida Lottery.

PooL Art Fair is different from all other art fairs in the US. Although there is a tradition in France of independent art fairs, starting from the famous Courbet’s Salon des Independents, PooL is the premiere fair in the US dedicated to artists that do not have representation in galleries.
Brian Feldman is a conceptual artist living in Orlando, Florida. Though best known for leaping off of a 12-foot ladder 366 times in 24 hours (Leap Year Day), he still considers the “reality theater” presentation with his family (The Feldman Dynamic), ten years in development, his pièce de résistance. Some of his other more than 50 time-based art projects include leading a group tour in Google translated Swedish through IKEA® (ChanuIKEA®), adapting a Shakespearean classic 140 characters at a time (Twitter of the Shrew), showing what the end of analog television looked like - twice (The End of Television: Part II & III), reciting text messages (txt), trying to cry (Trying to Cry), sleeping (sleepwalk), reading (Brian Feldman Reads This Newspaper In Its Entirety) and eating (Brian Feldman Eats Everything Off The Menu At Loving Hut). He made his professional acting debut at age 10 with Orlando Shakespeare Theater (Macbeth). Recent collaborations include TheDailyCity.com (Mobile Art Show), Jeremy Seghers (The Amazing Adventures of Normal People In 3D), IBEX Puppetry (PuppetSlam) and Voci Dance (iMove//dance/blog/art_).
