After the loss of their homeland, Lithuanian brothers Jonas and Adolfas entered New York in 1946 and began fervently documenting their lives on 16mm film. Originally released in 1976, this newly restored epic is an essential element within Mekas' cannon of diary films. Presented as a series of arresting visions and dreamlike narration (recorded many years after actual events), Lost Lost Lost recalls the harsh reality of exile and the joy of finding a new sense of home. A truly thoughtful meditation on loss and hope that remains vital and emotive some 30 years on.
