Los Pleneros de la 21 are considered New York’s preeminent Afro-Puerto Rican bomba and plena musicians. Bomba and plena are traditional Afro-Puerto Rican musical genres respectively dating back to the early 17th and 20th centuries. During each lively performance, LP21 often combine bomba and plena with jazz, salsa, rock and rap to create excitement and energy throughout the crowd. The group’s album, "Para Todos Ustedes," was nominated for a 48th Annual Grammy Award (2006) for Best Traditional World Music Album.

The performance is free and open to the public, however, tickets are required for admission. Tickets will be available beginning Sept. 24 at the Memorial Hall box office (Cameron Ave.). There is a limit of four tickets per person. Those requesting group tickets of 25 or more should contact Ursula Littlejohn at 962-9001 or email ulittlej@email.unc.edu.
