I really enjoyed the event especially seeing Dave Eggers and Carol Burnett. Talking with people in the booths was fun. UCLA was a wonderful venue for this. I picked up a preview copy of a fabulous new book that will be available in August, 2010, entitled "Little Gifts of Sustainable Contentment,โ by C.J. Good. It is the sort of book that I am always wishing for--compelling and pleasing to read, and at the same time inviting and intellectually engaging. This book of daily reflections highlights the existential quandary of how to get in touch with one's own longings and ambitions, with grace and truth, while also acknowledging the pressures and realities of our consumer-based society. Transfixed and mesmerized, I could not lay it down, and gobbled it up in two hours. I was sorry to have reached the end of it, and I did something I seriously rarely do - I have started reading it again! Very, very slowly.
