Lorenzo Pezzatini-Artist in Presence March 2, 2009

Lorenzo Pezzatini, a native resident of Florence, Italy, will conduct a week-long “Artist in Presence” residency at Hiram College from March 2-6, 2009.

Creating his unique strand-like material called “Filo” in 1978, Lorenzo has spent decades realizing the potential of Filo as subject and medium for painting, sculpture, and installation/performance in public, private, and commercial spaces. Filo has been used to comment on popular media, consumerism and advertising, war and injustice, as well as the nature of art, love, and familial bonds.

In addition to being a fixture in the Florentine art scene for decades, Lorenzo has had prominent exhibitions throughout Italy, as well as in Serbia, Austria and Germany. In the United States, Lorenzo has exhibited in New York City, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts. Lorenzo is currently the Head of Graduate Studies in Studio Art and Advanced Painting at Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence, Italy.

Screening of “Losing the Thread,” a documentary film on the life and artwork of Lorenzo Pezzatini by Jonathan Nossiter (2000), followed by an open forum discussion with the artist. Tuesday, March 3, 5:30 PM, Gelbke Fine Arts Center Auditorium

Convocation Artist Talk: Wednesday, March 4, 7:00 PM, Kennedy Center Ballroom, Reception with refreshments to follow
Lorenzo Pezzatini will present images of his artwork and talk about the creation, evolution, and myriad applications of his Filo as painting, sculpture, installation, and performance.

Gallery Performance: Friday, March 6, 5:00-8:30 PM, Gelbke Fine Arts Center Gallery
A culmination of the Artist in Presence week, join us for the performance piece, “The Illuminated Cyclist at Hiram” presented by Lorenzo Pezzatini.
